Puerto Rico
A Small Island. An Overwhelming Crisis.
Puerto Rico is just 3,424 square miles, yet an estimated 500,000 - 650,000 stray dogs struggle to survive on its streets, beaches, and in its neighborhoods. Across the island's 78 municipalities, only 4 municipal animal-control centers serve communities facing an overwhelming need. Local rescue organizations work tirelessly to save lives, but limited shelter space, veterinary resources, and funding leave countless dogs without the help they desperately need.
These dogs, affectionately known as Satos, face hunger, disease, injury, and abandonment every day. At Zoomies Rescue, we're committed to being part of the solution by partnering with local organizations to give these deserving dogs a second chance at a happy, healthy life.
The need is enormous. The resources are limited. Every dog saved makes a difference.
